Te Komihana Tauhokohoko | The Commerce Commission is Aotearoa New Zealand's competition, fair trading, consumer credit and economic regulatory agency. Our mission is to make New Zealanders better off by ensuring our markets work well and consumers and businesses are confident participants in those markets.
The Market Regulation Branch is responsible for improving competition outcomes in our regulated markets. Our Groceries team are passionate about implementing new regulatory tools to help improve competition in the Grocery sector and improving outcomes for New Zealanders.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
The grocery sector is a $22 billion a year industry - this is significant work of importance to the lives of all New Zealanders. We need people with the capability and passion for this mahi, to continue our positive impact on competition in the sector.
We are further growing the team and are looking for analysts at all levels – Assistant Analyst, Analyst to Senior Analyst – to join the team, based in our Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) office or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office.

A valued team player, you are experienced working in a fast-paced environment and bring a proactive and solutions-focused approach. You'll be able to think, write and communicate clearly and offer sound critical thinking skills. You'll also be comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels. If you are at the beginning of your career you will have the opportunity to develop these skills and work with a team who will mentor you.
Ideally you'll have experience or knowledge of the following:
- the ability to prioritise, focus on high value outputs and resolve challenging problems
- relationship management skills
- policy, regulatory or Grocery sector experience
- the ability to understand accounting and economic principles and interpret legislation.
- a university degree in an analytical field (e.g. accounting, commerce, law, science, or statistics) would be an advantage but is not essential.
