Investigator/Senior Investigator, Mergers at NZ Commerce Commission, Wellington or Auckland

We are looking for a talented individual to join our Mergers Team as an Investigator or Senior Investigator. This is a permanent role based in our either Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) office or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
Sitting within the Competition Branch, the Mergers Team carries out a critical function for the Commission under the Commerce Act, investigating mergers and acquisitions to ensure that competition in New Zealand markets is protected. You will learn daily about how New Zealand industries operate and interact with people across diverse areas of the economy – all while making a difference for everyday New Zealanders. The work is variable, interesting, and rewards an inquisitive mind.
Key aspects of this role include:
- applying competition law and economics concepts to real world situations;
- working in/leading teams of investigators, lawyers and economists;
- gathering, researching, and analysing complex information;
- presenting evidence and information verbally and in writing to decision-makers;
- working with internal and external stakeholders, including managers, Commissioners, and the business community; and
- working simultaneously across multiple projects.

If you have the following skills and attributes, you could make a great Investigator/Senior Investigator:
- a demonstrated interest in, and good grasp of, competition law and economics;
- strong analytical skills;
- strong organisational and time management skills;
- strong communication skills;
- the ability to quickly understand and synthesize complex information; and
- the ability to work individually and in a team.
A degree in law and/or economics, or experience working in competition law or economics, would be an advantage.
