We are looking for an Investigator and a Senior Investigator in our Fair Trading Investigations team. These are a permanent full-time opportunities, based in either our Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office.
Our Competition, Fair Trading Branch helps to ensure consumers are protected, and clear and accurate information is provided to them. The Investigations and Compliance Team investigates alleged breaches of The Fair Trading Act 1986, which prohibits false and misleading conduct by traders and a range of other unfair business practices. Our work focuses on everyday issues that really matter to New Zealanders.
As an Investigator or Senior Investigator, you'll be a key member of a project team, where you will lead investigations of alleged breaches of the Fair Trading Act and compliance activities to educate traders about their obligations under that Act.
You will be someone who enjoys the challenge of confidently project managing multiple pieces of work. The added benefit of the role is that you'll work alongside technical experts who will mentor and guide you through your career.
The indicative salary range for Investigator is $88,870 - $104,553 and Senior Investigator is $112,970 - $132,906 plus 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects their individual skills, experience, and internal relativities across the organisation.

- passionate about consumer laws
- experienced, confident and skilled at undertaking analysis and able to undertake investigations of varying complexities
- a skilled communicator – comfortable presenting, explaining legal obligations and interviewing as well as creating concise and clear written reports
- excellent at time management – able to prioritise your workload and successfully juggle multiple projects
A relevant tertiary qualification in an analytical discipline, and/or previous investigative experience is required.
