Project Manager/Senior Project Manager, Operations & Delivery at NZ Commerce Commission, Wellington or Auckland

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

We are looking for Project Managers and Senior Project Managers to join the newly established Operations & Delivery team within our Infrastructure Regulation branch on a fixed term or secondment until August/September 2027.

These opportunities will support the delivery of the branch's priority work programme, including major regulatory projects across the energy, water and airports sectors, as well as the implementation of new regulatory functions. You'll work across a diverse portfolio, partnering with subject matter experts and stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes that support better infrastructure services for New Zealanders.

As part of our One Commission approach, you may also have opportunities to contribute to projects across other areas of the organisation as priorities evolve.

These roles can be based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington).

 

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager, you'll be part of a central project delivery team that supports projects and programmes across the Infrastructure Regulation branch. You'll work closely with the Delivery Lead and project sponsors to ensure work is planned, governed and delivered effectively.

You will lead or support the delivery of medium to large, complex projects across their full lifecycle.

Depending on your level, you may:

  • Plan, manage, and deliver regulatory projects from initiation through to completion
  • Develop robust project plans, manage risks, and ensure delivery on time and within budget
  • Lead stakeholder engagement, including consultation processes and communications
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (economists, lawyers, engineers, analysts)
  • Produce high-quality reports, advice, and presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute to programme-level oversight and prioritisation
  • Mentor and coach team members (Senior Project Manager)

The indicative salary range for the Project Manager is $117,628 to $138,387 and for the Senior Project Manager $126,906 to $149,301 plus 3.5% KiwiSaver employer contribution. The successful candidate will be appointed at a starting salary which reflects their individual skills, experience, and internal relativities across the organisation.

For Project Manager roles, you bring:

  • Proven project delivery capability, including planning, risk management, and coordination
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across teams

 

For Senior Project Manager roles, you will also bring:

  • Experience leading complex projects in a regulatory, policy, or similar environment
  • Strong stakeholder management and consultation experience
  • Ability to lead, coach, and mentor others
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to navigate ambiguity

 

A project management qualification and experience working in regulatory, infrastructure, public policy or government-related environments will be highly regarded.
