About the Roles

As a Primary Care Radiology Liaison (PCRL), you will operate at the critical interface between Primary Care and Radiology Services, working at district and/or multi-district level within the Central Region CRR Hub.

You will provide clinical leadership, triage expertise, and relationship-based system improvement, ensuring the effective implementation of national community referral criteria and the sustainable delivery of CRR services within public health constraints.

These are hands-on, high-impact roles combining clinical judgement, service optimisation, education, audit, and quality improvement. You will support referrers and radiology teams, triage and prioritise referrals, lead quality assurance activities, and contribute to education across both sectors.

About the Team/Service/ Location

You will be one of a team of part time PCRLs. Ideally, we will have a PCRL in each district who works not only in their district but remotely across the Central Region, working a minimum of 4 hours per week.

About you

You are a clinically credible, systems-minded medical practitioner who is motivated by improving how care is delivered across the health system — not just for individual patients, but at population scale. You bring strong primary care or urgent care experience and enjoy working at the intersection of clinical practice, service design and quality improvement. Comfortable operating across organisational boundaries, you are able to translate clinical insight into practical system solutions that improve access, efficiency and equity. You build trust easily with clinicians, managers and referrers, and are confident providing clinical guidance, influencing change and supporting others through education, collaboration and shared problem-solving.

Essential experience and qualifications:

• MBChB (or similar medical qualification) and eligibility to practise in New Zealand
• Minimum 5 years' experience in primary care and/or urgent care within the NZ public health system
• Strong understanding of community-based care and referral pathways
• Demonstrated experience in clinical audit, quality improvement and service optimisation
• Proven ability to build and influence relationships across clinical and non-clinical stakeholders
• Confidence supporting and educating other health professionals
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• High-level clinical judgement, problem-solving and time management skills
• Comfortable adopting new IT systems and digital workflows

Desirable:

• GP or Urgent Care Fellowship

You will also demonstrate:

• A practical, applied understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity-focused healthcare delivery
• A collaborative, adaptable mindset with the ability to influence change without authority
• High professional integrity, accountability and self-awareness
