About the Role
Based within community, the Kaihāpai Oranga role is integral to building sustainable, long-term partnerships with iwi, hapū, and hapori Māori. You will partner to deliver initiatives that eliminate health inequity and support the achievement of Pae Ora. This position will be confident and agile working from an iwi/ Māori systems worldview, whilst also drawing on multicutural approaches.
This role is an active connector between NPHS and Māori community which provides a trusted conduit for Māori whānau, hapori Māori, Iwi to share priorities, needs and feedback on service delivery, issues or opportunities for improvement. The role also provides a channel for community voice to share needs, priorities, aspirations and feedback from whānau and hapori Māori.
This role sits in the Te Ikaroa region.
Hauora Māori Tūmatanui:
There are significant expectations in the kaupapa of the NPHS, that we will embed the health sector principles of the Pae Ora Act to achieve equitable outcomes for iwi and Māori communities. The Hauora Māori Tūmatanui Directorate is the lead in supporting the NPHS to: embed the health sector principles of the Pae Ora Act; support of iwi and Māori communities to realise their well-being aspirations; rapidly expand and develop our Māori workforce; and grow and develop the capability of our non-Māori and non-Pacific workforce to provide a culturally safe service.
To succeed in these aims, Hauora Māori Tūmatanui works as a cross-functional team embedded in all NPHS Directorates and supports our kaimahi Maori through the Pā Tūwatwata model to keep our workstreams safe and to have a strong foundation of whakawhanaungatanga and manaakitanga to build a Māori workforce that is valued, elevated and can support the achievement of Pae ora.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
As a Kaihāpai Oranga, you will be confident and agile working from an iwi/ Māori systems worldview, whilst also drawing on mainstream approaches. You have lived experience or experience working alongside hapori Māori. Your previous experience should demonstrate your ability to apply mātauranga Māori, critical thinking and using sound judgment to develop advice, options and support delivery of work programmes.
- Lived experience or significant experience working alongside communities (eg: Tangata Whaikaha, rural communities, transitional housing, LGBTQIA+)
- Passion for tikanga, matauranga Māori and/or a willingness to develop this
- Passion for Te Reo Māori and/or a willingness to develop skills in this
- Established relationship with iwi and hapū in the area you will be working
- Basic technology skills and a willingness to learn new systems
- Clean full NZ Driver Licence
- Willingness to travel across the region
