Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • Permanent, full-time position based in Wellington.
  • Lead the future of payroll analytics and workforce insights across a large and complex health region.
  • A strategic role where your expertise in finance, analytics, and performance reporting will help drive smarter workforce decisions and better health outcomes.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As the Regional Finance Payroll Analytics Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in transforming payroll and workforce analytics across the Central Region. Working as part of the Regional Finance team, you'll lead the coordination of district-based reporting and analytics, creating consistency, capability, and value from payroll data across multiple districts and services.

This is a highly strategic role where you'll develop and embed regional reporting frameworks, establish a single source of truth for payroll performance, and provide meaningful insights that support executive decision-making. You'll work closely with Finance, Payroll, People & Culture, and operational leaders to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, while driving continuous improvement in reporting, benchmarking, and data governance. You'll also support major workforce initiatives and programmes by delivering predictive and historical analytics that enable informed planning and performance management. If you're passionate about turning complex data into actionable insights and influencing outcomes at a regional level, this is an opportunity to make a significant impact.

About you

As an experienced finance, payroll analytics, and performance reporting professional, you'll bring strong leadership capability, strategic thinking, and a proven ability to turn complex workforce and payroll data into meaningful insights that support better organisational decision-making.

  • A relevant tertiary or professional qualification in analytics, information systems, finance, business, payroll, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience working with large, complex payroll and workforce datasets, with the ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong experience developing dashboards, reporting frameworks, benchmarking approaches, and performance measures to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Demonstrated understanding of payroll, workforce analytics, and performance reporting, with the ability to identify trends, risks, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience working in finance or alongside finance teams, with an understanding of how payroll insights inform budgeting, forecasting, and organisational performance.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across matrix environments and diverse stakeholder groups.
