Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We are looking for a talented Policy Analyst to join this newly established role within our Strategy, Planning and Performance team at Te Whatu Ora. Your role will have a strong ethic of public service and will see this as an opportunity to make a difference. You will come with a range of policy skills, expertise and backgrounds. The primary purpose of the role is to provide high quality objective analysis and advice on policy issues as they relate to planning and strategy development. 

Mōu | About you

The successful candidate will be adaptable, flexible and resilient. You will be a team player with the ability to collaborate with others and will bring along your strong critical thinking skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders. You'll be able to apply your skills across theoretical design to implementation – though your experience may be more at one end of the spectrum or the other. We're looking to build a well-rounded team, so we're open to candidates with a blend of government policy and operational policy development, and experience. You will be joining this newly formed team where you will sharpen your ability to provide robust well considered advice, across a range of senior stakeholders. You will be a true collaborator building genuine relationships at all levels.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
  • Comprehensive knowledge of policy formulation in a health or social sector government or delivery agency
  • Highly developed analytical skills and a demonstrated commitment to developing and maintaining specialist skills and knowledge in own area of expertise
  • A good understanding or the policy development process and of parliamentary processes
  • A good understanding of the policy implementation and the issues likely to impact on it
  • Project management skills

This role requires and/or would benefit from the following

  • An understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in your role
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a willingness to learn and grow
