Critical Care Campaign: Pharmacy Educator at Te Whatu Ora, Wellington

Contract: 1.0 FTE (full time), Fixed term 1 year contract

Salary: $87,999 - $104,108

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

The Critical Care Expansion Programme has committed funding to support and increase Allied Professions workforce capacity and capability within critical care settings by funding Educators for Allied Professions within the Central Region.

This role could be based at any of the districts across the Central Region, but will be part of the wider allied professions educator team including a Coordinator, and 6-7 other profession specific educator roles. The educator role will develop skills and knowledge/capability frameworks for the Pharmacy roles that work in ICU/HDU or provide care for patients when transferred back to their home District. The educator roles will work as a team across the central region utilising both electronic and face to face methods of communication. There will be an expectation to travel when necessary. These will, at least initially, be fixed term roles for 1 year.

Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team

This is a new team that will be both part of allied professions clinically, but also liaise closely with both the nursing educator roles and the regional Pharmacy staff working in critical care. The educator role will be intrinsic to supporting the culture and work ethic of the team, and the networking and partnering with the nursing educator roles, professional leader and team leaders for each profession. The AP educator team will work across the Central region, they may be based at any of the 6 hospital sites, but expected to support across all Pharmacists working in critical care, and alongside the other allied professions, nurses and medical teams working in this service within the Central regions hospitals.

Moū – About you

You will be a highly skilled clinician holding a Pharmacy Annual practicing certificate, with a minimum of 5 years' experience with knowledge of working in critical care. You will be someone who values evidence based practice and also leadership by example. You will be cognizant of the importance of equity for patients, whanau and for your team. You will not hold a specific clinical caseload, but will work alongside occupational therapists from a clinical coaching/mentoring perspective. Alongside your team, you may support education of the wider critical care clinical teams around what Pharmacy brings to critical care and how that fits within the critical care service. You will have proven quality improvement skills and outstanding communication with a solid understanding of clinical education.

Within the Central Region, critical care is provided at six major hospitals: Wellington Regional Hospital, Hutt Hospital, Wairarapa Hospital, Palmerston North Regional Hospital, Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital and Whanganui Hospital. Almost all tertiary services, including intensive care services, are provided by Wellington Regional Hospital; Hutt Hospital provides the regional plastic surgery service.
