We are looking for an exceptional and experienced senior people leader to lead our Urban & Infrastructure programme. This role reports to the Deputy Secretary, Environmental Management & Adaptation and works as part of a collaborative senior leadership team with key responsibility for delivering the RMA Reform programme and Climate Adaptation policy. The role also interfaces with the Ministry's Executive Leadership Group, Chief Executive's Office and Ministers.
Operating across the built and natural environment, the Environmental Management and Adaptation Business Group advises Government on one of the Ministry's biggest levers for change: the resource management system. It leads the development of impactful, forward-looking policy and planning, in partnership with Māori, that improves the resource management system (both built and natural) and strengthens the resilience of communities.
This role is responsible for policy development, legislation and related implementation for urban and infrastructure, spatial planning and related national direction.

Our ideal candidate will bring:
- Extensive experience at a senior level managing people, finances, and resources with the ability to develop and foster talent
- Experience in strategy development, strategic and spatial planning, implementation, oversight, and performance monitoring and improvement
- Practical knowledge of te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles, and experience applying te Tiriti into implementation and operations
- Experience leading delivery and operations functions and cross-government programmes working collaboratively across agencies and organisations
- Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and to develop and maintain effective relationships with Ministers, senior public service officials, and internal and external stakeholders
- Experience delivering solutions to complex problems
- Experience empowering and supporting managers to effectively deliver their work programmes and achieve desired outcomes
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $221,713 to $268,895 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
