At ERO, we are committed to improving outcomes for children and young people through independent evaluation, review and effective use of evidence. We are looking for a curious and experienced Senior Data Analyst to join our Data and Insights team within the Performance and Implementation group.
This is an opportunity to lead complex data projects, contribute to the strategic direction of the group, and coach and mentor others to deliver high-quality work.
As Senior Data Analyst, you will collect, organise, analyse and interpret data to provide meaningful insights. You will translate complex technical information into clear language for leaders, Ministers and broader audiences, and turn business requirements and feedback into precise technical specifications for data teams.
Reporting to the Chief of Data and Insights, you will play a leadership role in designing and delivering the team's work programme and help build data capability across ERO.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, developing and leading data projects across ERO and with education sector partners
- Providing expert advice on using data and analysis to improve efficiency, quality and business practices
- Collecting, managing, analysing and visualising ERO and education sector data
- Responding to information requests and working with stakeholders to interpret and validate results
- Developing measurement frameworks and methodologies to monitor ERO's performance and impact
- Maintaining clear documentation of business rules, methodologies, definitions and assumptions
- Supporting robust commissioning, management and quality assurance processes
- Building capability through coaching and mentoring within the team and across ERO
Mōhou ake | About you
You will be a highly skilled analyst with advanced quantitative capability, sound judgement and the confidence to communicate complex findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Advanced technical skills using tools such as MS Excel, RStudio, Power BI, Stata or SQL to collect, manage, analyse and visualise data
- Strong knowledge of statistics and statistical modelling, including regression modelling
- The ability to lead complex work programmes and deliver high-quality work under pressure
- Excellent written and verbal communication and confidence presenting to multiple audiences
- Sound judgement and an innovative approach to identifying, analysing and resolving problems
- A working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for the education sector
- Knowledge of the New Zealand public sector and experience working with Ministers
- Curiosity, integrity, adaptability, self-motivation and a commitment to ongoing learning.
