We are looking for a Senior Information Sharing Advisor to join the Customs Legal team, based in either our Auckland or Wellington Customhouse. This position is a full-time fixed term/secondment opportunity to 30 June 2025.
About this role…
Reporting to the Chief Legal Advisor, you will be responsible for reviewing, maintaining, designing and implementing the systems, processes and procedures for the sharing of information by NZ Customs with other agencies and organisations.
Working as part of a supportive and engaged legal team that is committed to encouraging career development, you will be a trusted advisor in information sharing and relevant obligations to ensure that information sharing arrangements are appropriately applied and reviewed.
To be successful as a Senior Information Sharing Advisor, the appointee requires the following knowledge, experience, skills and personal attributes:
- Significant and verifiable experience developing and delivering information management practices within complex organisations.
- A high level of understanding of Information Sharing processes within Government.
- The proven ability to work well in a team in a highly collaborative manner.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
- An ability to adapt to, and learn new technologies and methodologies as required.
- The ability to work flexibly to deliver advice and support across multiple products and services and teams.
- The ability to deliver quality outcomes, even when under pressure.
- Satisfies Customs' Security vetting requirements.

(*) A New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last five years and resides in NZ at time of application.
OR a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last five years and resides in NZ at time of application but may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past five years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA. You will be required to provide overseas police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.
Applicants must have New Zealand Citizenship or have NZ Permanent Residency and be able to obtain and maintain an organisational security clearance to a higher level. The successful applicant will also be required to pass an initial drug test.
