Tangaroa Coordinator/ Occupational Therapist at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley, Kenepuru Hospital/Porirua

About the Role 

This is a role for a registered health professional. The role incorporates working within the OT team in developing, coordinating and delivering therapeutic occupation for the service with a rehabilitation and recovery focused approach.  The role is to coordinate the Tangaroa Activity Center and therapeutic programmes, resources as well as offering advice and guidance to the OT team. 

The role will:

  • Include co-ordinating the Tangaroa Activity Centre activities, planning, designing, facilitating and evaluating groups, ordering resources, , liaising and supporting sessional workers and other agencies in liaison with the hiring manager and the OT Expert,
  • Invite and encourage other members of the MDT to participate and facilitate in programmes.

Some of the key priorities for this role include:

  1. To coordinate the daily activities of the Tangaroa Activity Centre which provides a supported and structured environment in which all tangata whaiora are able to build strengths and accomplish recovery in a way which is consistent with their goals.
  2. To develop a programme in consultation with the team leader and OT expert which will provide:
  • A safe, relaxed and sociable atmosphere.
  • An environment that enhances motivation and socialisation.
  • A range of meaningful occupations.
  • Structured and unstructured, recovery, vocational, social and educational groups.
  • Allows opportunities for observation of mental state, and occupational performance and risk that can be shared with the care teams.

About the Team/Service/ Location

You will have the support of the Te Korowai-Whāriki (TKW) Occupational Therapy (OT) expert and your line manager.  You will be part of the TKW OT team which is made up of 9 OT positions and 7 OTSW positions.  The team has a supportive culture that is open to new ideas and service planning.  Tangaroa is a hub for all units within the campus therefore as part of this role you will be working daily alongside another member of the OT team.

About you 

You will be motivated to meet service initiatives, optimize the delivery of therapeutic programmes and have a creative flair to make the environment a welcoming place for tangata whaiora. 

It would be expected that someone in this role would;

  • practice in a manner that tangata whaiora  determine as being culturally safe.
  • be respectful and able to collaborate in practice with colleagues and wider MDT members.
  • have excellent communication: written, verbal and ability to use outlook calendars.
  • have experience with direction and delegation.
  • full drivers licence.
  • have experience in mental health and rehabilitation settings.
  • be a registered health professional with a current practise certificate.
