Join Our Team as a Peer Support Specialist at Matariki Community Mental Health Centre

At Counties Manukau District, our shared vision is to work in partnership with our communities to improve the health status of all, with a particular focus on Maaori, Pacific peoples, and other communities facing health disparities.

Our community team provides comprehensive mental health assessment, treatment, and recovery support for Tangata Whaiora/Service Users in the Mangere and Otara communities.

In this role, you will work within a culturally diverse community, providing peer support and recovery coaching to individuals on their journey toward mental health recovery. You will support people in the location of their choice—whether at home, in a clinical setting, or within the community. Additionally, you will facilitate recovery group programmes.

Workdays and Location:

The position is full time and part time, with workdays Monday to Friday, between 8 am and 5 pm. The role is based at 492 Great South Road, Otahuhu.

To be successful in this position, you will have the following training, skills, and attributes:

  • Peer Support Training Certificate (essential)
  • Completion of a Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) program or similar
  • Ability to apply the Peer Support approach
  • Understanding of recovery concepts, pathways, and values
  • Personal lived experience of mental health or addiction
  • Excellent verbal, written, and computer literacy skills
  • Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and its application to health
  • A full, clean driver’s license (essential)
