Mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
The'Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council (MSAC) was established in 2010 by the then Minister for ACC and exists to provide independent assurance to the Minister of ACC (or Associate Minister) that ACC is investing the Motorcycle Safety Levy (MSL) effectively against the Motorcycle Safety Strategy, considering the voice of all motorcycle communities and fully leveraging government partnerships.'
It'has up to eight members, including a Chair and Deputy Chair appointed by the Minister for ACC'and we are now seeking expressions of interest for further Council Members - both a Chair and Council members - for the next term that are representative of our diverse riding communities across NZ.'
This assurance role requires the council to provide the Minister with confidence that:
- There is a robust, evidenced based strategy in place to reduce the volume and severity of motorcycle injuries and deaths across all NZ
- All voices of motorcyclists and motorcycle communities are captured and integrated into the strategy and interventions delivered'
- The MSL is fully'invested'and works with ACC to provide transparency about the investments and benefit of these investments to a diverse motorcycle community'
- The performance of the strategy and its interventions are tracked and are delivering reductions in the volume and severity of motorcycle injuries'
- There are processes and systems in place to ensure government agents work together to reduce the volume and severity of motorcycle injuries.'

Council members:
Through their individual and collective expertise, council members support the Chair in providing assurance to the Minister for ACC, fulfilling the Purpose and Terms of Reference of the Council.
Chair:
The Chair is responsible for leading the Council, ensuring that representation on the Council reflects the required mixture of skills and representation to perform the Council's Purpose and Roles and for managing engagement with ACC.

- A diverse representation of all motorcycling communities within NZ
- Knowledge of government processes including planning,'budgeting'and accounting for'investment of public funds.'
- Strong networks within the motorcycling community.
- Assurance and/or governance'experience.
- The ability to interpret research and'evidence, think strategically and focus on'outcomes.
- An understanding of, or an interest in the role of adult education.
- Experience building constructive working'relationships.
- Credibility as a motorcycle communities advocate.
- The ability to engage and effectively build trust and confidence with key stakeholder groups, and to communicate positively.
- The ability to meet online every 6 weeks (occasional travel) plus pre-work time.
Remuneration
Remuneration will be at the rate below for the day prior to the meeting to allow for any reading and the day of the Council meeting (up to 3 hours).
Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission set the remuneration rates with consideration of the Council ToR and roles of the Council members, in line with the Cabinet Fees Framework.
Chair - Maximum fee per day $365 plus GST, fees for part days are paid on a prorated basis at the rate of $45.63 plus GST
Council member - Maximum fee per day $270 plus GST, fees for part days are paid on a prorated basis at the rate of $33.75 plus GST
NOTE: We meet regularly usually on MS Teams, however, we come together in person a couple of times per year, therefore, you can be based anywhere around the motu.
