Occupational Therapist at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Hutt Valley, Lower Hutt

Location:  Hutt Hospital

Contract: Fixed Term (12 months), Full time / 1 FTE, Rostered and Rotating

About the Role 

The Advancing Wellness at Home Initiative (AWHI) team is a community team at Hutt Hospital works with people coming out of hospital post stroke, following an injury (under the Non-Acute Rehab contract) and also with medically unwell older people presenting to ED or Acute wards.

The team operates in a pull model, focussing on identifying patients who can rehabilitate and recover at home, earlier, in order to support with hospital flow. 

Whilst this role will have a particular focus on Stroke, the service to Older People and those discharging following an acute medical illness, non-acute rehabilitation will also form part of your scope of service. 

In order to offer a 7 day per week service, therapists in these roles will be rostered to work one weekend day per month with a rostered day off in the same fortnight. 

About the Team/Service Location

The AWHI team has a range of professionals including Nursing, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Allied Health Assistants,  as well as  access to specialist Doctors.

We are looking for someone with the right clinical skills and a mind open to new ways of working.  Te Whatu Ora is committed to improving better health outcomes for Māori and Pacific whānau so your commitment to Te Tiriti and health equity is a must. You'll also bring excellent time and case load management, great communication, and inter personal skills. 

In order to maximise our efficiency, we are developing our Inter-professional practice approaches, so you'd need to bring a holistic perspective and be prepared to cross-skill, learning some activities that may be new to you.
