HR Business Partner – fixed term into February 2027 at Transpower New Zealand Limited, Wellington

The opportunity – due to an overseas sabbatical
You'll join our small, collaborative HR Business Partnering team at our Head Office in Wellington. With a start date ideally before 4 May 2026, you’ll work with us through to February 2027, partnering with our Executive Leaders and their teams of people managers.
Building relationships enterprise wide, you'll be a trusted partner (one of three business partners each with a client group of ~350 employees) and influence and build capability ensuring organisational design is fit for future, and our leaders have engaged, high-performing teams, and a culture of delivery excellence. Our engagement sits in the top 25% of Energy and Utilities organisations.
You'll enjoy varied, dynamic, meaningful work at pace, and your contribution will yield measurable results and drive value across the organisation as you:
- Provide coaching, support, and data-informed operational and strategic advice to managers across the employment lifecycle to enable achievement of exceptional performance and outcomes
- Support managers to optimise people capability
- Implement OD initiatives such as capability and succession planning
The role doesn't have direct reports, enabling you to fully focus and balance the demands of both operational and strategic HR. The HR Business Partners work closely together in a collegial environment, and you'll also be supported by advisory and coordination staff, and subject matter experts as required.
What will you bring?
Significant experience in a generalist senior advisory or business partnering role, ideally in a commercial organisation.
With a sound understanding of progressive employment relations, you'll love building positive and enabling relationships with managers and employees at all levels. We are a data driven technical organisation, so you'll have demonstratable ability to make commercially astute recommendations at executive level, based on evidence and best practice principles.
To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:
- Deep experience as a senior Human Resources professional
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills and a proven track record of influencing and building leadership and management capability
- Experience in managing structural change
- Experience in employee performance management processes
- An in-depth understanding of NZ employment legislation, integrity, and demonstration of exceptional judgement at all stages of the employee lifecycle
