Biochemistry Technical Specialist at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Waitematā, Auckland

About the Role

Join our Biochemistry team in a senior technical role where youll provide leadership, support service improvements, and help deliver accurate, timely diagnostic testing. Youll work closely with the Service Lead to introduce new methods, support staff development, and maintain high quality standards. This is a collaborative role where youll contribute to a service thats always evolving to meet the needs of our patients and whānau.

The position is mainly Monday to Friday during business hours, with some flexibility to cover occasional rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays, across our Waitematā laboratory sites.

About Us

About you

To be successful in this role, youll:

  • Be a Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council and a current APC (essential), with a relevant postgraduate qualification preferred
  • Have at least 5 years experience in a hospital Biochemistry lab, with proven leadership and senior/specialist technical experience
  • Have a strong background in quality improvement, method verification, and equipment evaluation
  • Have excellent communication, organisation, and relationship-building skills, with a proactive and innovative approach
  • Be able to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain accuracy and professionalism under pressure
