Consultant General Paediatrician with a special interest in Development and Behavioural Paediatrics

Permanent Part Time (0.75 FTE)

Based in Rotorua Hospital

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Consultant General Paediatrician with a special interest in Behavioural or Developmental Paediatrics to join our team at Rotorua Hospital on a permanent, part time basis (0.75 FTE).

About the Role

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a vibrant and supportive environment, providing exceptional paediatric care to the diverse community in Lakes region across Rotorua and Taupō sites.

This role involves assessing and managing a broad spectrum of paediatric conditions, with an emphasis on behavioural and developmental issues. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, contributing to both clinical practice and service development.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Acute inpatient paediatric and level 2 neonatal care and after hours on call on a 1:8 basis is negotiable. The current paediatric team consists of eleven specialists general paediatricians with a full range of subspecialty interests, a senior registrar/fellow, three junior registrars and dedicated paediatric SHO support. Our team has well established links with tertiary centres for support.

The department is accredited by RACP for a basic general paediatric and a rural component of advanced paediatric training as well as a portion of community child health paediatric training.

Rotorua Hospital is a teaching site for 5th and 6th year medical students from the University of Auckland Medical School.

About you

As a Consultant General Paediatrician with a special interest in Behavioural or Developmental Paediatrics, you will bring:

  • Full registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (or suitable qualification recognised in NZ).
  • Specialist qualification in Paediatric Medicine (e.g., FRACP or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in behavioural or developmental paediatrics.
  • Maintains a high standard of clinical practice with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and cultural competency.
  • Clinical leadership experience and skills and some experience in service development
