Librarian at Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington

The role | Te tūnga

Join us in one of two roles in the Arrangement and Description Team within Metadata Services. The team is central to Alexander Turnbull Library workflows and collaborates closely with Appraisal, Conservation, Curatorial, Digital Archivists, Imaging, and Research and Access teams.

The Research Librarian and Librarian roles ensure collections are accessible and cared for by:

  • Arranging, housing and describing unpublished archival collections in line with our standards to enable discovery, access, and use of items held by Alexander Turnbull Library
  • Contribute to ongoing reparative metadata work
  • Support a diverse range of researchers and visitors to the Library, including in our reading room and through outreach activities

Additionally, the Research Librarian provides leadership within the team through:

  • Peer review of descriptive records and processing plans
  • Providing advice and mentorship on aspects of archival and library theory and practice to colleagues
  • Support the development of and champion new ways of working
  • Contribute to Archives - National Library New Zealand projects and initiatives

What you bring | Nōu te rourou

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • A passion working with heritage collections
  • Experience processing collections in an archives, library or similar environment (preferred)
  • Effective organisational and workflow management skills
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and enjoy completing tasks successfully
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Understanding of tikanga Māori and te reo Māori is an advantage
  • A tertiary degree and a qualification in libraries, archives or a related field (or working towards one), or equivalent experience and training

The appointing range for the Research Librarian role $71,767- $89,310, with the potential to appoint higher depending on level of experience.

The appointing range for the Librarian role $62,947- $78,334 with the potential to appoint higher depending on level of experience.
