About the role | Mō te tūranga mahi

We're looking for a Senior Solicitor with public law experience to join ACC's Legal team and support our vision of a thriving Aotearoa, driven by a purpose of improving lives every day. In this role, you'll provide high'quality legal advice on complex strategic and operational matters relating to the Accident Compensation Scheme, including ACC's public law obligations, policy development and legislative change. Your work will help ensure ACC operates lawfully, effectively and in the best interests of New Zealanders.

The appointing salary for this role is $117,787 - $166,288 based on experience and we offer an additional 9% superannuation contribution. ACC offers a comprehensive benefits package which at present includes an advantageous superannuation scheme with features like 0% employee contribution, optional life and income protection insurance, and flexibility to change to a locked plan at any time.

This is a permanent role, based in either Wellington or Auckland.

About you | Mōu

We're looking for a team player with exceptional communication skills, who can build strong relationships and work collaboratively. Someone who can focus on the big issues and provide simple, solutions focused advice will fit well with us. You'll be comfortable advising within a large Crown entity and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders across the organisation.

You will bring:

  • Significant public law experience, with the ability to provide clear, practical advice in a large and complex Crown Entity environment
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and provide clear direction in the provision of specialist legal advice, including advice on the operation of statutory schemes and lawful exercise of powers
  • Strong relationship'building skills, with experience working collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills and a solutions'focused approach to complex issues
  • Experience working with technical experts; experience in highly regulated, insurance, health or Crown Entity environments is an advantage
  • Knowledge of, or a willingness to develop understanding of, Te Ao Māori, tikanga and te reo Māori, and an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to Crown Entities
  • A tertiary qualification in law with at least seven years' post'qualification experience in a relevant legal role
  • A current New Zealand Law Society practising certificate
  • You must hold New Zealand work rights at the time of application.
