Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
- Emergency Department Registrar (Dr)- training and non-training, Rotorua Hospital, Permanent Fulltime (part time work available)
- Come and work in Rotorua ED for fast-paced, interesting medicine with a strong team vibe, set against a backdrop of lakes, forests and geothermal energy
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role
Rotorua ED is accredited for 24 months of ED training by the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) including the paediatric logbook. We offer an anaesthetic rotation for our trainees, as well as easily accessible placements in general medicine and paediatrics. We have 4 hours of protected teaching per week, several of our current FACEMs are involved in ACEM exam question writing and we have an examiner.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Rotorua Hospital is a regional hospital in one of the most spectacular regions of New Zealand native bush, beautiful lakes and rivers, unique geothermal landscapes and some of the best mountain biking , rafting, kayaking and running trails in NZ. Rotorua is also the perfect place to explore all that the North Island has to offer - it is only an hour from the spectacular east coast beaches, and an hour from stunning Lake Taupō with Mount Ruapehu offering skiing, tramping and fishing.
Rotorua Hospital has all secondary level specialties with tertiary level care provided at Waikato hospital. The patient mix is broad with a full range of trauma, medical, surgical, paediatric and minor presentations. The population we serve has relative high levels of deprivation, social issues, poor health literacy and many live in rural and remote communities. This adds to the acuity and complexity of our patient presentations, but makes our work more rewarding. Our population is 35% Māori and as a team we are committed to improving inequity and aligning with ACEMs Manaaki Mana strategy.
Senior support is excellent; our medical team consists of 15 ED SMOs and 14 ED RMOs. With a small numbers of registrar positions there are abundant opportunities for gaining procedural experience. Half of our FACEMs have achieved Fellowship within the last five years, so are up to date with current College requirements and are enthusiastic about helping trainees prepare and pass the College exams.
