Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Nurse Educator- Mental Health & Addictions Emergency Department

  • Permanent 0.6FTE (48 hours a fortnight)
  • Designated Senior Nursing role based at Nelson Hospital
  • Opportunity to have a greater impact

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

The Nurse Educator Mental Health & Addictions and Acute Emergency Services is a key member of the MH&A, ED, and Workforce Development teams. Your role would see you planning, delivering, and evaluating workforce development activities specific (but not limited to) the mental health service setting.

As a Nurse Educator you will coach and educate staff to their best potential resulting in improved experiences for our health consumers. You will primarily work alongside the MH&A and ED teams, in a clinical coach/mentoring capacity, leading and embedding evidence-based practice, developing education strategies, involving staff in identifying areas for development, and developing objectives and plans in order to help staff apply learnings to practice.

A large component of this role will be ensuring that clinical quality systems are in place within and across our nursing services to enhance care delivery.

About the Team/Service/Location

Nelson Hospital's ED provides 24/7 emergency care to a diverse patient population. It currently operates under increasing demand - the department sees 100'120 patients a day on its busiest days. This equates broadly to more than 33,000 presentations per annum, and likely more as the population grows.

The recently completed ED expansion offers a modern, purpose-built environment that improves patient experience and staff wellbeing. The redevelopment includes additional treatment and resuscitation areas, improved workflow design, and upgraded facilities to meet the growing needs of our community.

If you are looking for a new role, working alongside an enthusiastic and supportive team that is focused on constantly improving the level of care provided to the community, this is the role for you.
