Health Care Assistant - Oncology at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Nelson Marlborough, Nelson Hospital

About the Role

The oncology service provides holistic specialist nurse assessment, care and education to patients and whanau diagnosed with cancer. 

As a Health Care Assistant, you will be part of our dedicated nursing environment with full support. Your role is to work within the team to assist nursing staff in care delivery, one-to-one patient watches and other tasks as directed. 

Every day is different and our nursing team enjoys the variety of work, the people they interact with, and the challenge of giving each patient the best customer experience, whilst ensuring that everything runs to schedule. 

Your hours of work will be 5'8-hour shifts, rostered and rotating from Monday to Sunday.

About the Service/Team/Location

The Oncology Nursing team are a group of community focussed, specialised nurses who care for people with cancer from diagnostic work up, through treatment and into the survivorship period and/or palliative care. Patients are seen in their own homes, the Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy outpatient clinics and in the hospital wards.

About You

You will have the ability to get on with a wide variety of people, have great communication skills and love helping people. You will have the ability to work in a flexible manner, demonstrating honesty and reliability.  Good IT and organisational skills are a bonus.

Experience within the health sector is preferred but is not essential as full training will be provided. 

Qualifications

Essential

  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
