About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our Cancer Services team. This new position has been established to support increased operational demands associated with the relocation of the Oncology Facility to a purpose-built site located on campus but separate from the main hospital.
The physical separation between the Oncology Facility and the hospital requires additional support to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of patient care. In this role, you will provide practical assistance that contributes to safe patient flow, timely service delivery, and a positive patient experience.
Health Care Assistant is essential to maintaining appropriate skill mix, supporting service expansion, and enabling Registered Nurses to focus on direct clinical care and complex patient needs. Hour of work will be 5'8-hour shifts, rostered and rotating from Monday to Sunday.
About the Service/Team/Location
As part of an exciting period of growth and development, the service is relocating to a new Oncology Facility and expanding the delivery of community-based infusion services. Our focus is on providing high-quality, patient-centred care closer to home while ensuring safe and efficient service delivery.
You will be joining a skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team that includes Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Medical Oncologists, Haematologists, Allied Health professionals, administration staff, and Health Care Assistants. Working collaboratively, the team is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and supporting patients and their whānau throughout every stage of their cancer journey.

About You
Are you passionate about supporting patients receiving cancer treatment and care across the Nelson Marlborough region? If so, we would love to hear from you. To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant, caregiver, support worker, or in a similar healthcare role.
- A genuine commitment to providing patient-centred care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to safely undertake duties involving walking, transporting equipment, and assisting patients.
- Confidence using electronic systems and maintaining
accurate documentation.
