Financial Controller at Electoral Commission, Wellington

Help lead the financial management of one of New Zealand’s most trusted public sector organisations.
At the Electoral Commission, we work to help New Zealanders participate in democracy and have confidence in the electoral system. As part of our Enterprise Services Group, the Financial Controller plays a key role in overseeing the integrity, accountability and stewardship of public resources. This role is pivotal in ensuring the Commission has met all its statutory and reporting obligations, and the FMIS and Payroll systems are compliant with current legislation and are well managed for optimal performance.

As our Financial Controller you will:
- Lead and develop the financial accounting team as well as the payroll team.
- Have oversight and responsibility for the payment of suppliers and payroll.
- Strengthen internal controls, financial policies and risk management frameworks
- Be responsible for the integrity of the General Ledger and all subsidiary Ledgers.
- Lead the delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, including the Annual Report, Ministerial reports, ELT and Board reporting.
- Manage the Annual Audit with Audit NZ (or their representative)
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.
This is an 12 month fixed term role the salary band for this role is $150,430-$167,140 depending on the skills and experience of the candidate.
Mōhou ake | About you
You must have at least 5 years of senior level financial accounting experience, ideally in the public sector. You will also have:
- A good understanding of IPSAS-PBE accounting standards and Treasury Crown Entity reporting requirements, including CFIS.
- Some experience leading and managing teams.
- Knowledge of Business Central Dynamics 365 and Continia Approvals would be an advantage.
- Have strong analytical capability, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships across the organisation.
- Experience with the Microsoft suite of products, and a high level of competency in Excel.
- Be a current member of CAANZ or equivalent.
