Senior Reporting and Insights Analyst at Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake , Wellington

About the role | Mo te mahi

We are looking for a Senior Reporting and Insights Analyst to lead the delivery of high-quality operational and management reporting and analysis across the organisation. This role is central to ensuring senior leaders, ELT and the Board are well informed and equipped to make effective decisions.

You'll deliver end-to-end reporting that is timely, accurate and actionable, using data storytelling and visualisation to turn complex information into clear, meaningful insights. You'll drive continuous improvement, automation and self-service reporting capability, while also building team capability through mentoring, peer support and stepping in to lead day-to-day team delivery when needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure reporting outputs are accurate, relevant and well-targeted so that decision-makers have the information they need, when they need it.
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights using data storytelling and effective visualisation techniques.
  • Develop papers, briefings and reporting inputs to support ELT, Board and executive-level needs, including OIA responses.
  • Drive improvements in reporting efficiency by exploring automation, streamlining manual processes and championing innovative approaches.
  • Foster strong relationships with senior stakeholders, providing proactive, insight-led advice to support sound decision-making.
  • Support the Manager, Reporting and Insights by helping coordinate team priorities, contributing to strategic planning and mentoring peers.

 

Skills & Experience| Nga pukenga me nga wheako

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • At least 5 years' experience in a senior or specialist reporting role, with a track record of delivering operational and management reporting that meets the needs of senior audiences.
  • A strong analytical mindset – you're comfortable working with data end-to-end, from extraction and preparation through to interpretation and presenting it in a way that drives decisions.
  • Advanced skills in Power BI and the Microsoft 365 suite, with well-developed knowledge of data modelling, preparation and reporting frameworks.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, building trusted relationships that support effective collaboration.
  • Experience leading projects or teams, with a proactive, detail-oriented approach and strong self-management.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. data, analytics, information systems, commerce or similar) is preferred, and experience in a public sector or complex operational environment would be advantageous.
