About the role | Mo te mahi
We are looking for a Category Manager to take ownership of IT-related procurement and commercial activity – managing the full lifecycle from sourcing strategy through to contract delivery. You'll ensure procurement outcomes are compliant, commercially sound and aligned with Government Procurement Rules and organisational priorities.
You'll bring strong commercial judgement to tendering, negotiation and supplier management, ensuring contracts deliver real value. You'll also contribute to building team capability by sharing your expertise and guiding others through complex procurement challenges.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the full procurement lifecycle across IT-related categories – from developing sourcing strategies and running tender processes through to negotiating and establishing contracts.
- Analyse supplier markets and benchmark performance to support smarter sourcing decisions and uncover value opportunities.
- Oversee supplier relationships and track delivery against agreed targets and service levels, resolving issues and renegotiating terms where needed.
- Collaborate with legal and business teams to draft and review contract terms, ensuring risks are appropriately identified and managed.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and shape procurement solutions that are practical and fit for purpose.
- Report on procurement activity and surface insights around cost, risk and efficiency to support continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role you will bring:
- At least 6 years' experience in procurement and commercial roles, with a solid background working across IT-related categories.
- A strong track record in contract management and commercial negotiation, including managing terms, variations and supplier performance.
- A good working knowledge of government procurement frameworks, public sector practices and All-of-Government agreements, and how to apply them in practice.
- Confident relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders across a range of business areas.
- A sharp analytical mindset – comfortable interpreting data, assessing commercial risk and turning insights into practical advice.
- A degree in business, commerce, supply chain management or a related field is preferred, and MCIPS or equivalent professional qualification would be an advantage.
