The Opportunity

Step into a pivotal senior nursing leadership role within New Zealands largest regional cancer service. As a Clinical Charge Nurse in Acute Oncology, you will drive clinical excellence and operational coordination across our Oncology Outpatient service.

About the Role


Reporting to the Oncology Charge Nurse, you will be accountable for the safe, effective delivery of specialist nursing care to our oncology patients/ Whānau. You will lead by example, providing daily clinical mentorship and coordination to ensure our patients and their Whānau receive seamless quality care.

Working closely with the senior nursing leadership team and a diverse multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Lead & Mentor:Foster a high-performing nursing culture through clinical supervision and professional development.
  • Coordinate Care:Oversee daily service delivery, ensuring seamless patient flow and resource management.
  • Drive Quality:Implement evidence-based practices and champion safety and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Collaborative Care: Partner with Medical and Radiation Oncology specialists and multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to deliver integrated, patient-centred care.

About You

In this role, we are seeking an innovative leader with a strong oncology background and a passion for health equity. 

We are also looking for the following important skills & qualifications:

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC).
  • Experience: Oncology Senior Nurse or an Oncology experienced RN Level 3 or 4 who is Chemotherapy Certified and has leadership qualities.
  • Education: Post-graduate qualification or working towards. 
  • Clinical Expertise: Expert knowledge in SACT and the ability to manage complex clinical presentations and adverse reactions.
  • Cultural Commitment: A proven commitment to biculturalism and achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori.
  • Systems Savvy: Competence in Microsoft Office (Excel) and healthcare-specific IT systems.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Strong communication skills with an ability to build multidisciplinary relationships
