Nau mai, haere mai. We're looking for an experienced registered nurse to join our acute inpatient service as our Māori Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is a unique opportunity to lead with purpose and influence nursing practice across our acute inpatient service and bringing a Te Ao Māori perspective to everyday clinical care.

About the Role

As our Māori Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide nursing leadership that strengthens the care we provide to tāngata whaiora and whānau with complex needs within our inpatient mental health service. Working alongside nursing leaders and clinical teams, you'll support the delivery of evidenced-informed nursing practice through a Te Ao Māori lens, helping to build confidence and competence in clinical decision making, whilst ensuring tikanga is reflected in everyday practice.

You will work collaboratively across the service to support a nursing culture built on equity, inclusion and professionalism underpinned by Te Tiriti o Waitangi. You will foster strong relationships between nursing and other teams, sharing your clinical and cultural knowledge, ensuring Māori perspectives are embedded, and supporting innovation and quality improvement that achieve better outcomes for tāngata whaiora and their whānau.

About You

You will be an experienced registered nurse with strong clinical knowledge and the confidence to work alongside staff in a busy inpatient environment. You will be comfortable having courageous conversations, respectfully challenging practice where needed, and advocating for approaches that are grounded in both evidenced-informed care and Te Ao Māori.

  • Minimum of 3 years clinical nursing experience in a tertiary level specialist mental health service
  • Confidence to influence clinical practice, challenge established ways of working where required, and advocate for equitable outcomes for Māori

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust with tāngata whaiora, whānau, and colleagues
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to navigate a fast-paced environment
