Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • Own and improve inventory master data quality and governance
  • Support grid operations, capital projects and supply chain decisions
  • 12-month fixed-term role in our Inventory & Logistics team

Transpower owns and operates New Zealand's National Grid - the high voltage transmission network connecting areas of generation with towns and cities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

With a whole-of-industry view of the electricity sector we are at the forefront of enabling the country's energy transformation. Our teams are working hard to enable a sustainable, net-zero carbon future.

Our Inventory and Logistics team, within Corporate Services, provides leadership across the establishment, maintenance, replenishment and management of Transpower’s inventory, including analytics that support our inventory, logistics and purchasing functions.

About the team

Inventory and Logistics supports both maintenance and grid project activity by fulfilling inventory requests for internal and external stakeholders, managing inventory warehouse facilities, and ensuring the right materials and information are available to support safe, reliable delivery across the grid.

The team works closely with engineering, procurement, logistics, finance, service providers and suppliers to ensure inventory information is accurate, consistent and fit for purpose.

The Opportunity

As Inventory Master Data Specialist, you’ll join us on a 12-month fixed-term basis and be responsible for the end-to-end quality, governance and lifecycle management of inventory master data within Transpower’s systems.

You’ll ensure inventory data is accurate, complete, governed and fit for purpose, enabling effective maintenance, capital project delivery, procurement, warehousing and supply chain decision-making.

Reporting to the Inventory and Purchasing Manager, you’ll act as the single coordination point for inventory master data inputs across engineering, procurement and suppliers, helping reduce ambiguity, rework and data integrity risk.

What will you bring?

You’ll bring strong experience in inventory management, master data, supply chain or data governance, along with the attention to detail, systems confidence and stakeholder skills needed to maintain high-quality item master data in complex enterprise systems.

  • Experience creating, maintaining and governing complex inventory item master data, ideally within ERP or EAM systems such as Maximo.
  • Strong understanding of data quality principles, controls and governance, including identifying and resolving duplication, inconsistencies and data gaps.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capability, with high attention to detail and confidence working with structured data, reports and dashboards.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, procurement, logistics, category management, finance, suppliers and service providers.
  • A practical, improvement-focused approach, with the ability to strengthen standards, processes and data management practices over time.

Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in inventory management, master data management, supply chain or data governance roles.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining item master data in complex systems and aligning data across integrated enterprise platforms.
  • Experience supporting data quality reviews, cleansing, mass updates, standardisation or structured data change processes.
  • Confidence coordinating technical inventory information, including supplier information, specifications, drawings or documentation linked to item records.
  • Ideally, experience in an asset-intensive, infrastructure, utilities or engineering-based organisation, and/or training in data, inventory or supply chain disciplines.

Why Transpower?

Over this 12-month fixed-term period, you’ll help improve the accuracy, consistency and reliability of the inventory information that supports grid operations, maintenance and capital project delivery. Your work will directly reduce operational risk, improve planning outcomes and enable better identification and availability of critical materials.

  • A role with clear impact on inventory integrity, supply chain performance and grid delivery outcomes.
  • The opportunity to strengthen master data standards, controls and governance in an asset-intensive environment.
  • Broad stakeholder exposure across engineering, procurement, logistics, suppliers and service providers.
  • A collaborative environment with modern ways of working and a strong focus on safety, inclusion and wellbeing.
