About the role

As Senior Advisor, Public Service Fale, you will help strengthen public services across the Pacific by providing high-quality advice, coordination and delivery support to Pacific Public Service Commissioners and senior public service leaders.

Working as part of a small, committed team, you will help plan, deliver and report on the Fale annual work plan. Your work will support practical, fit-for-purpose services that respond to Pacific priorities and align with New Zealand Government and Pacific partner priorities for public sector strengthening, good governance and improved outcomes for Pacific communities.

The role may involve occasional travel across the Pacific to support engagement, delivery and relationship-building with Pacific Public Service Commissioners and partner agencies.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • has strong skills in analysis, planning, programme delivery and stakeholder engagement
  • can provide timely, well-constructed, fit-for-purpose, and evidence-based advice and solutions that support Pacific Public Service Commissioners' priorities
  • communicates clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, with advice tailored to the audience

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong analytical, advisory, relationship management and delivery skills, along with the ability to work respectfully and effectively across Pacific contexts. This role will give you a unique opportunity to contribute to public sector strengthening across the Pacific and support work that makes a practical difference for Pacific communities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with Pacific Public Service Commissioners, the Commission, MFAT and development partners.
  • Conduct needs analysis to identify fit-for-purpose solutions that meet PPSC priorities.
  • Plan, prioritise and deliver projects and activities in the Fale work plan, including assessing risk, meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
  • Evaluate and report on the impact of projects and activities, showing how the work contributes to strategic goals.

The Public Service Commission Te Kawa Mataaho leads the public sector to make a positive difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders.

This position sits within the Public Service Fale, a regional centre of excellence funded by MFAT. The Fale supports 16 Pacific Public Service Commissioners to strengthen public services for their citizens through practical advice, peer learning, leadership support and fit-for-purpose services.

Salary

The full salary range for the band is $108,003 to $144,460. We typically look to appoint to the role between $108,003 to $131,551, depending on skills and experience.
