Senior Financial Accountant at The Treasury, Wellington

We’re looking for an experienced financial accountant to deliver trusted financial advice and analysis to the Treasury and Shared services customers. You will bring your extensive experience to ensure our financial operations run smoothly, and our customers receive timely, high-quality support.

The Finance Division is part of the Enabling Services Group at The Treasury. We support the organisation with stewardship of public resources, financial advice, and core finance operations. The Financial Operations Team delivers day-to-day services and leads continuous improvement across processes and systems so the Treasury and our Shared Service customers can rely on consistent, efficient, and responsive support. 

 

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role 

As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and credibility of the Treasury’s financial reporting and Crown returns. You will provide expert accounting advice and analysis to support sound fiscal management, statutory compliance, and informed decision-making by senior leaders and Ministers.

In this role, you will: 

  • Oversee end-to-end financial reporting cycles (including CFISnet), ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. 
  • Provide expert financial accounting services for complex financial transactions across the Treasury and Shared Service customers. 
  • Maintain and enhance robust financial processes and internal controls to ensure the reliability of financial information. 
  • Deliver high-quality financial advice and analysis to support strategic decision-making. 
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective financial management and reporting. 

This is an 18-month fixed-term opportunity, offering you the chance to contribute to the Treasury’s vision while gaining valuable experience in a dynamic and impactful environment. 

 

Ō pūmanawa | About You 

You’ll be an experienced financial accountant with strong public sector financial management expertise. You will be comfortable working at pace, partnering across the business, and turning complex information into clear, useful advice. In addition, the ideal candidate will have  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including interpreting financial and non-financial information.  
  • Proficiency in Excel, CFISnet and financial management systems.  
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities in a complex environment.  
  • High levels of integrity and attention to detail.
