Senior Financial Accountant at Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington

As an enterprise-wide function, the branch delivers high-impact services across finance, people and culture, communications, technology and strategy, governance and risk, supporting informed decision-making and strong organisational performance.

The role | Te tūnga

As Senior Financial Accountant, you'll play a key role in maintaining a strong financial control environment across the Department. You'll oversee the integrity of the balance sheet, ensure reconciliations are completed and cleared, and identify and resolve financial risks and issues.

You'll also provide technical financial advice, support accurate financial reporting and help strengthen financial processes and systems. Working across Finance and with senior stakeholders, you'll use your expertise to provide trusted advice, improve financial controls and support sound decision-making.

What you bring | Nōu te rourou

  • Strong financial accounting experience, with particular expertise in financial controls, balance sheet management and reconciliations
  • Sound knowledge of financial reporting, GAAP and public sector financial management requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify financial risks and resolve complex issues
  • The ability to provide clear, practical financial advice and influence sound financial management decisions
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust across a large and complex organisation
  • A proactive approach to improving financial processes, systems and controls

The salary range for this role is $111,458 - $138,704, with appointments likely to be made at the midpoint of $123,842.
