Wellington District Intelligence Unit is recruiting for an enthusiastic and motivated Intelligence Analyst to join our busy, world-class team. Our unit supports Police leaders and operational staff by helping them understand and plan for risks, challenges and opportunities within the Wellington District criminal environment.

 

As an Intelligence Analyst you will help ensure decision-makers receive the intelligence they need to make Wellington District a safer place. You will use your initiative and critical thinking skills to understand and identify enforcement and prevention opportunities within the criminal environment. You will apply analytical tools and techniques to develop compelling advice that informs Police operational decision-making.  The role requires presentation of analysis through both written reporting and verbal briefings to a range of audiences.

 

You will bring a positive, open mindset and embrace the challenges that analytical problems present. You will be comfortable talking to others to build your understanding of Policing and intelligence, and work directly with people from a wide range of internal and external agencies for mutual benefit.

 

The policing environment is fast-paced and dynamic, and the work we undertake can be challenging. Resilience and adaptability are essential qualities for the successful candidate.

 

This position is currently responsible for the delivery of intelligence support to area leadership, operations and investigations. A core component of the Wellington District Intelligence Unit’s operating model is the periodic rotation of analytic portfolios to encourage innovation and development.

Key Accountabilities:

 

 

• Proactively identify emerging or escalating trends in crime issues.
• Demonstrate strong critical thinking and apply analytical techniques to interpret information for intelligence analysis, as well as proposing effective solutions that are suitable for the intended audience.
• Development of a high-quality written reports/presentations and provide clear and concise verbal briefings to a range of audiences.
• Actively and positively contribute to collaborative projects and group analysis.
• Effectively manages competing priorities and demands to maintain quality of work under strict timeframes.
• Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external).
• Champion diverse world views, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and identifying opportunities to reflect these in intelligence products

Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

 

• Applicants must be an NZ or Australian citizen, or an NZ Permanent Resident.
• Applicants must be able to work predominantly on-site at Wellington Central Police Station.
• You may be required to work outside of usual business hours and/or at alternative locations within Wellington District for operational reasons.
• Hold a full NZ driver’s license to facilitate work at alternative locations, where required.
• Note – a tertiary qualification is not a requirement. However, previous work experience is preferred.

To be eligible for this role, you may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance. 

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or: 

• A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
• A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary 

 

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $88,179.00 – $92,267.00 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
