Job Description

Are you someone who is passionate about recreation and the protection of New Zealand historic assets?

We have a vacancy for a highly experienced Senior Ranger in our Recreation and Historic team in the Maniapoto District.  

As a Senior Ranger you have defined leadership responsibilities including the ability to plan and authorise technical work programmes relating to:

  • construction and maintenance of a large number of sites and significant assets, including the iconic Timber Trail
  • management and improvement of facilities and amenities
  • provision of visitor information
  • visitor hazard management systems
  • visitor risk management


Your day to day work will take you across the district, leading recreation and historic based work programmes on and off public conservation land.

Your skills and experience in recreation and historic work will be vitally important in supporting other staff, community groups and volunteers to deliver on the ground.

The successful applicant will have

  • extensive experience in field based asset management, carpentry and/or facilities management
  • specialist experience/qualifications in a related discipline
  • sound knowledge and practical experience of recreation/historic work
  • experience as technical lead of a work team
  • considerable project management experience
  • skilled at coaching, training and supporting staff and the acquisition of technical knowledge
  • have good public relations skills, to communicate and work with our communities, contractors, stakeholders and Iwi
