Job Description

Are you passionate about the conservation of New Zealand’s natural flora and fauna, a skilled communicator and passionate about sharing your skills and knowledge with others? If yes, then this is the job for you.

As a Ranger, (Biodiversity) you will be joining our talented Operations team carrying out critical natural heritage conservation, community and visitor assets work programmes across the Wairarapa District.

You will be actively supporting a range of different programmes including:

 

  • permissions and concession monitoring;
  • animal and plant pest control;
  • asset maintenance;
  • threatened species management

 

Your day to day work will see you managing contracts and projects, managing key relationships and supporting the District’s community work programme.

Your skills and experience in natural heritage work will be of great help to others and your work will include teaching, coaching, supporting and/or overseeing Rangers, community groups and volunteers doing conservation work in the field.

The successful applicant will have

  • A current NZ full drivers licence
  • Superior communication and relationship skills
  • Some experience managing contracts and / or projects
  • Experience in the practical management of threatened plant and animal populations and the execution of pest control operations
  • current First Aid Certificate
  • ability to interpret GIS information, produce maps and use data loggers
  • Ability to collaborate with and maintain positive and productive relationships with Whanau, Hapu, Iwi
