Do you have sound medical knowledge, including of cancer, excellent relationship management and communication skills, an affinity for technology and a proven dedication to the collection of robust health information? If so, we have an opportunity for you to join the team in the newly created position of Senior Clinical Coder, New Zealand Cancer Registry (NZCR).

 

The NZCR team sits within the National Collections and Reporting group of the Client Insights and Analytics Business Unit in the Ministry of Health and is based in Wellington. The NZCR team is responsible for maintaining the population-based register of all primary cancers diagnosed in New Zealand (excluding basal and squamous cell skin cancers).

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward-looking Senior Clinical Coder with great analytical skills to support the Team Leader and five Clinical Coders in producing high quality cancer registration data for use by the Ministry, key stakeholders and the community.  

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Sound medical knowledge, including knowledge of the various types of cancer and its treatment
  • Experience in using ICD-10 or ICD-10-AM classifications. ICD-O (Oncology) experience an advantage.
  • Strong information technology skills and the ability to quickly learn about the in-house NZCR application
  • The ability to analyse complex information quickly and accurately and a strong interest in quality assurance and robust results
  • Attention to detail – able to identify and investigate inconsistencies in data
  • A positive outlook and excellent skills in collaborating within the team, across the Ministry and within the health sector
  • A strong client focus with good networking, interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • The ability to communicate clearly in a variety of settings
