About the Major Events team

Our Major Events team are committed, hard-working, and enthusiastic individuals who live and breathe the events that they partner with.  We are looking for a like-minded experienced administrator to join our high-energy team.  

 

The Major Events sector in New Zealand is dynamic and exciting. Events that we partner with include: Art Deco Weekend, the FIFA U20 World Cup, Winter Games New Zealand, World of WearableArt Awards Show, Volvo Ocean Race, ITU World Triathlon series and many more.

 

The Major Events team plays a number of roles including:

  • An advisor to Government Ministers on the value the New Zealand event industry brings to the economy;
  • A partner with the events sector to attract major events, boost sector capability and leverage benefits arising from events to maximise them for New Zealand;
  • An investor to ensure valuable legacy outcomes that align with the government’s Major Events Strategy are delivered through major events; and
  • A one-stop-shop for event organisers to help them navigate their involvement with government.

 

The Major Events team works alongside the Tourism Policy team which is responsible for providing advice and analysis to help lift the productivity of the tourism sector, and the value it adds to New Zealand’s economy. The Tourism Policy team has responsibility for administering the Tourism Growth Partnership which was created to lift innovation and productivity in the sector by co-funding projects with the sector.

 

About the role

This is a highly valued role where you will be responsible for leading the coordination of processes supporting the administration of the Major Events Development Fund and Tourism Growth Partnership, including monitoring the Funds, providing high quality reporting and tracking of financial information and supporting team members through the investment process for both Funds.

 

You will need to be a proactive, self-starter who can hit the ground running and ensure the smooth running of the Major Events and Tourism teams.

 

Working in the team will expose you to stakeholders from such events as well as managing relationships with other government departments and Ministers offices. There is opportunity to utilise and develop project management, stakeholder relationships management, and financial management skills.

 

To be considered for this role you will need:

  • Experience working in central government processes
  • A proactive work style and customer service focus
  • Strong financial literacy and comfort using Excel to track funding information  
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work at a highly productive pace, take initiative, and juggle competing timelines and tasks
  • Experience in managing a grants portfolio and in developing contractual funding agreements highly desired.
