An exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of New Zealand’s cultural and heritage sector, leading the Ministry’s finance and strategic planning function.

Manatū Taonga, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, works to enrich the lives of all New Zealanders by supporting Aotearoa New Zealand’s dynamic culture and preserving our heritage. The Ministry supports many of New Zealand’s arts, media, heritage, and sports organisations, advises government on cultural matters, operates Pukeahu National War Memorial Park and provides research and resources for everyone to access. We pride ourselves on our agility, our open, collaborative and supportive culture and high levels of engagement.

Reporting to the Group Manager Corporate Services, this key position is responsible for leading the Ministry’s finance and strategic planning functions.  It fulfils the role of Chief Financial Officer for the organisation, and has responsibility for the following:

  • External accountability, planning and performance reporting, including the Four-year Plan, Statement of Intent and annual report
  • Supporting the development and success of the Ministry’s strategy
  • Leading internal performance planning and reporting
  • Managing Ministry financial systems and financial administration
  • Leading the Ministry’s relationship with the Treasury and Audit New Zealand.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Great customer service skills and enjoys building and maintaining relationships with customers and colleagues
  • Capability in corporate and strategic planning and reporting
  • Experience working with and advising senior leaders in the public sector
  • Demonstrated strong experience in finance roles
  • A CA qualification or equivalent.
