Job Description

 Backend Developer

Te Papa is building a team to design and deliver world leading, accessible, sustainable and delightful digital experiences, products and services that Te Papa’s customers love – both inside the museum and beyond its walls.

Our new appointees will be working within cross-functional teams from around Te Papa using lean and agile development techniques and audience centric and data driven approaches to build and evolve scalable, robust and innovative digital products.

The Backend Developer provides direction and hands-on development capability across Te Papa’s wide range of technology systems. Those systems include business systems, web systems, museum interactive systems and mash-ups between them. The role also provides project assurance, support and advice on solution options and requirements.

You will have the opportunity to solve exciting and difficult challenges and to be a contributor in providing access to Te Papa’s knowledge and expertise, and to learn cutting edge innovations in your field of expertise through collaboration with Te Papa’s technology incubator Mahuki.

The successful applicant will need significant programming experience with strong troubleshooting skills and a hands-on approach. You will have the ability to creatively solve complex problems and have an understanding and experience of application security, REST APIs, relational databases, SOLID development principles and practices, software and system architecture, common Internet standards and practices, data wrangling, version control, agile software development life cycles. You will also be able to convey technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, with a lot of empathy for users and a desire to make things better for them.

All applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
