The NZ Police Information and Communications Technology Service Centre are seeking to appoint an experienced Release Manager, to the Service Operations Group, based at the Royal New Zealand Police College, Porirua.

 

The Police ICT Service Centre is here to save police officers time, enhance their safety and contribute to making New Zealand a safer community. To prevent crime and crashes, Police needs information delivered to the front line that is reliable and able to be accessed anywhere, anytime. Making this happen is the daily work of our people in the ICT Service Centre. With our operational colleagues and partners we create world leading solutions in mobile, computer aided dispatch, intelligence, networks and security. The Release Manager is responsible for the planning, scheduling and controlling the movement of Major Releases from the Test to Production Environment. The integrity of the ‘live” environment is protected and the correct components are released.  They are also charged with monitoring adherence to the Release Management Framework and processes within NZ Polices ICT environment by internal and external parties.

 

This is a dynamic and challenging position, and the successful applicant will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

 

  • Excellent understanding of the release management lifecycle and a good understand of change management processes.
  • Previous experience in release management within a large complex IT service environment essential.
  • Previous experience in a 24/7 IT service environment essential.
  • Previous experience in a multi supplier environment preferred.
  • Previous experience in relationship management both internal and third party preferred.
  • Previous Project Management experience preferred.
  • ITIL certification preferable.
  • Promotes a professional customer-focused service delivery culture that is service-based and aligned with current IT industry best practices.
  • Contributes effectively to strategy and planning as part of the Service Experience group.
  • Manages NZ Polices Release Management Framework.
  • Promotes responsibility, accountability, integrity and quality within the Release Management lifecycle to stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the number of releases that follow the Release Management process increase over time.
  • Identifies and implements continual service improvement strategies for reducing failures for releases.
  • Works to reduce the number of unplanned/emergency releases.
  • Ensures that all releases are recorded, tracked, updated, and managed through their lifecycle
  • Provides support and guidance to stakeholders to assist them with understanding and complying with the NZ Police Release Management process.
  • Maintains an overview of all Releases and facilitates action or escalates, as required.
  • Proactively liaises with all release management stakeholders to stay informed of future changes.
  • Maintains documentation for the Release Management Framework.
  • Provides management and performance reports to an agreed schedule.
  • Works collaboratively with the Change Manager to ensure that all releases which impact upon change management are communicated effectively.
  • Works collaboratively with the Programme/Project Managers to ensure that all releases adhere to the NZ Police Release Management Framework.
  • Monitors the Release Management Framework with strategic partners to ensure they comply with agreed processes and ensures their delivery of services and quality is in line with business expectations. 

 

SFIA Skill Levels for this role are:

  • Release and Deployment (RELM): Level 6.
  • Relationship Management (RLMT): Level 4.
  • Conformance Review (CORE): Level 5.
  • Change Management (CHMG): Level 5.

 

Core Competencies for this role are:

  • Communicate: Manager Level.
  • Solve: Manager Level.
  • Deliver: Manager Level.
