Job Description

Would you like to play a part in building an evidence-informed and learning culture at the New Zealand Aid Programme? This programme is the New Zealand Government’s international aid and development programme, which is managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.  It supports sustainable development in developing countries in order to reduce poverty and contribute to a more secure, equitable and prosperous world. 

We are looking for three high calibre people who have comprehensive experience in evaluation and/or research, excellent written and analytical skills, who are strong communicators with outstanding relationship management skills.  You will have a solid track record in managing and delivering evaluation and/or research projects and enjoy the challenge of building an evaluative culture across the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.  You will be able to efficiently manage your own time, be an effective team player, all while demonstrating a high level of resilience and professionalism.  We currently have three positions that need to be filled:   

Senior Evaluation and Research Adviser(Full-time/Open-Tenure)

The key purpose of this role is to effectively manage the strategic evaluation and research programme and budget that drive the overall performance of the New Zealand Aid Programme through the delivery of evaluation and research that is integral to strategic direction setting, operational decision-making, policy and country strategy development, and continuous practice improvement. This position is responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of commissioned evaluations and research. The role also provides leadership on evaluation policy and practice as well being responsible for building evaluation capability.  

Senior Pacific Research Adviser(Full-time/Open-Tenure)

The key purpose of this role is to effectively manage the operational relationship with the New Zealand Institute for Pacific Research in order to deliver timely and applied research that feeds into solutions and practical tools to make the Pacific prosperous, safe and self-reliant. It is also responsible for the management and delivery of the strategic research work programme for the New Zealand Aid Programme. The role provides leadership on research policy and practice and builds research capability. 

Evaluation and Research Adviser (Half-time/Open-Tenure)

This role is primarily responsible for the effective delivery of a portfolio of evaluation and research work and for supporting and coordinating activity level evaluations. This position will also support good evaluation and research practice.  

All roles will also actively participate in the development of an evaluative culture that supports evidence-informed practice and learning across the Pacific and Development Group and the wider Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. 

You must be a NZ Citizen and able to obtain and maintain an appropriate New Zealand Government Security Clearance.
