  • Work to make a difference for New Zealanders
  • Be part of busy team that provides quality service to Ministers and Ministry staff
  • Varied, challenging and rewarding role

We are seeking a bright, go-getter graduate with good writing skills, who is confident in their ability and willing to learn!

About The Ministry of Social Development

The Ministry of Social Development is the lead agency for the social sector.  We help New Zealanders to help themselves to be safe, strong and independent.

About our Team/Culture

We are a friendly and supportive team, made up of staff interested in the democratic process, and in serving the Ministry’s clients and Ministers.

About the Role

We are looking for an energetic and engaging Graduate Advisor to join our Correspondence team which is part of the Ministerial and Executive Services team.  Our work includes dealing with Official Information Act requests, Privacy Act requests, Parliamentary questions, correspondence to Ministers and to the Chief Executive, and supporting Ministerial offices...... there is never a shortage of things to do!

Key responsibilities include:

  • preparing draft responses to CEO correspondence, OIA requests, parliamentary questions, Select Committee questions, Ministerial correspondence, Ombudsman enquiries and Privacy Commissioner enquiries.
  • developing and maintaining knowledge of policy, legislation and the environment relevant to MaES’ work.
  • analysing issues and questions contained in correspondence and other requests for information.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and organisational skills.  An ability to successfully establish and maintain strong relationships with a variety of people is crucial.  Working with complex issues is a daily occurrence so your ability to explain your thinking clearly in conversations and writing is a must.  A "can-do" attitude, together with great attention to detail and the ability to think on your feet whilst juggling multiple tasks and priorities, will add to your success in this role.

If this sounds like you and you would like to be part of a wider team of people who work together to make a difference for New Zealanders, please apply now.

To apply, click the 'Apply Now' button to upload your CV, cover letter and complete the online application form.  Note: Your cover letter will be a key part of our assessment process, so please highlight how your experience relates to the competencies listed in the position description.
