Job Description

The Ministry of Social Development’s Legal Services team has a commitment to providing independent, high quality, timely legal advice and representation. We are currently seeking a Graduate or Solicitor (2 years PQE) to join our Litigation team in Hamilton.

Reporting to the Regional Litigation Manager the successful applicant will have a genuine desire to work in the public service and enthusiasm for advocacy with the ability to obtain a practising certificate immediately, if not, some post-admission experience.

You will undertake regular litigation in the Family Court and on occasions the District Court.  A significant part of this role will include providing advice and training on care or protection law and to a lesser extent fraud investigations.  A working knowledge of the care or protection provisions of the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act and the Social Security Act and other legislation administered by the Ministry is essential.

You will need to be able to develop and maintain successful relationships across the team, with clients, Courts and external stakeholders.
