The Department is blessed with more than 72,000 recreation, historic and infrastructure assets with a replacement value of over a billion dollars– everything from huts and other buildings, signage and interpretation, tracks and walkways, bridges and structures,  to campgrounds  and toilets!  Don’t miss this opportunity to help DOC manage these great assets.

We have a vacancy for a Works Officer to join our National Planning Team. This position is responsible for carrying out a range of asset management functions which includes:

  • providing project management services including engaging and managing consultants, obtaining consents and tendering and managing construction contracts for the upgrade, replacement or removal of the Department's outdoor recreational assets 
  • providing project and construction contract afvice and support to the Department's field staff
  • conducting inspections of huts, tracks and structures within the region


We are looking for a capable works officer with experience and/or qualifications in construction, project and contract management. You will need to have sound working knowledge of asset management processes and practices as well as practical experience engaging with the construction industry. The ideal candidate will also have experience with capital and operational budget management in the Government sector, be qualified to inspect tracks, huts and structures, and experience in the use of electronic data loggers.

If you have experience in managing construction projects, have a good level of fitness, and an active interest in outdoor recreation, then this may well be the role for you!
