The Strategy, Performance and Policy team in the Joint Directors'-General Office supports both the GCSB and NZSIS.  As Advisor you will be involved in ensuring the leadership of the GCSB and NZSIS are well-placed to make informed and coordinated decisions in a wide range of areas.  In turn, your work will directly contribute to the national security of New Zealand.

This is an opportunity to really contribute to the effective operation of a freshly established team which provides policy advice to the Directors-General and takes responsibility for annual planning, organisational performance and non-financial reporting.  The team also has responsibility for key accountability documentation such as annual reports, strategic intentions and annual business plans to ensure they are completed to a high quality and on time.  You will be responsible for providing advice to the Directors-General on a range of issues, as well as supporting the GCSB and NZSIS Senior Leadership Teams (SLT).  The role will require you to draw on your great relationship and organisational skills to navigate through complex situations.

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A tertiary education qualification or equivalent training and experience
  • Experience working within central government ideally in a related area
  • Knowledge of the machinery of government, including structures and processes surrounding public administration and public policy
  • A desire to strengthen policy development, analysis and advice skills within a senior team
  • Experience with corporate governance and the associated documentation
  • Proficiency in handling, understanding, processing and communicating governance documentation

Salary range: $66,387 - $82,893 per annum circa

Please note: To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
