Job Description

Manager Relationships (Careers)

The Tertiary Education Commission's (TEC) mission is to ensure that all New Zealanders are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need for life long achievement. TEC invests $3.2 billion annually in the tertiary education system. With the integration of Careers New Zealand in July 2017, and an ambitious strategy to regenerate the sector, TEC is reorganising its entire organisation to meet these challenges. This new position follows a strategic and functional realignment of the Commission to support its focus on New Zealand's future success.

This role reports to the new role of Deputy Chief Executive Delivery. Predicated on the need to have a broad and demonstrated impact across the careers system, this role is responsible for contributing to the segmenting of the careers customer base, the development and delivery of the overall TEC relationship management strategy and plans, and the management of our relationships across the system.

You will ensure that relationship plans are developed for each of the customer segments, assign Relationship Managers (RMs) to those segments and regions, and ensure that RMs work with the Ministry of Education, schools and COLs, iwi, TEOs, and employers to ensure individuals and communities have the careers information and advice they need to be successful in life. You will ensure that all relevant information is consistently and effectively feed back to the TEC team and recorded in the CRM for wider use.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically around what we are seeking to achieve, and convert this into plans, systems and processes
  • A commercial background
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring professional staff, and encouraging them to develop a systems approach to the work
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to model and embrace change and new ways of working.
