Job Description

Manager Fund Specialists

The Tertiary Education Commission's (TEC) mission is to ensure that all New Zealanders are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need for life long achievement. TEC invests $3.2 billion annually in the tertiary education system. With the integration of Careers New Zealand in July 2017, and an ambitious strategy to regenerate the sector, TEC is reorganising its entire organisation to meet these challenges. This new position follows a strategic and functional realignment of the Commission to support its focus on New Zealand's future success.

Reporting to the new role of Deputy Chief Executive Delivery, this role is responsible translating strategic intent into outcomes through funding levers. The team will be staffed with our best analytical talent as they specialise in the allocation and performance monitoring of our grant funds.  They determine initial TEO funding allocations, and set parameters and guidance within which Relationship Managers negotiate final allocations for recommendation to the Board.  The Fund Specialists Team also provides documentation and support to the Board and the Chief Executive to enable them to make fully informed decisions.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, preferably post-graduate
  • Experience and/or ability to lead and develop a team of analysts working with financial information and modelling
  • Demonstrated ability to think around what we are seeking to achieve, and convert this into plans, systems and processes which ensure highly accurate information and advice
  • Experience and ability in influencing, advising and informing others including the ability to communicate complex information in plain English
