Job Description

We are currently recruiting for casual staff to help support our Visitor Centre Team based in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland's new Visitor Information Services Centre, Prince's wharf. Your role will be to ensure visitors receive an excellent customer service experience by providing them with all the information they need to undertake experiences that will last a lifetime. 


We are looking for outstanding team players, who set the bar high in their professionalism, who are not afraid of hard work and are able to show initiative and solve problems as they arise. 


 The skills we are looking for:

  • These will be casual, zero hours, contracts, designed to provide cover for VC staff during periods of illness, leave or increased visitor numbers, so flexibility to work weekends and weekdays, at short notice is essential.
  • A good understanding/willingness to learn of recreation and tourism opportunities available within the Tāmaki Makaurau/ Auckland region and throughout New Zealand.
  • Genuine enthusiasm when speaking to visitors about what conservation and recreational activities and opportunities available to them in the Auckland region.
  • The ability to pronounce/willingness to learn Māori words correctly and understanding of tikanga Maōri and the departments commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • Experience/demonstrated competence in customer service, computer skills, sales, and retail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to maintain high standards while working under pressure
  • An active interest in outdoor pursuits and conservation.
  • Keen to support conservation opportunities and projects in the field and play an important role in encouraging the public to engage in conservation.
  • A good knowledge of the issues surrounding conservation in New Zealand
  • The ability to converse in a second language would be a distinct advantage


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
